About

Capabilities is a nonprofit in Elmira, NY that was founded in 1956 after community members recognized people with disabilities were often excluded from employment opportunities. Community members, some of whom belonged to the Elmira Rotary Club, worked tirelessly to raise money, construct a business and design an inclusive program. Our mission remains the same 65 years later: to empower those who want to work. Our employment services can assist those who are interested in joining the world of work but who may need support in obtaining competitive employment. Our individualized approach to employment can help you find the job that best meets your needs. We offer advocacy, benefits advisement, mental health supports, on-site training, linkage and referral to other community services.
